Intermission - some things to share!
Season 8 is... a while away but I'm with you in spirit 👼
Hi Mehketeers!
*Quick recap for the newer Mehketeers: Mehdeeka runs in seasons, Season 7 finished about a month ago. Between season breaks are usually about a month long but we’ll get into why this break is a bit longer below*
How are you?! I miss you. It has been so long since I last wrote a Mehdeeka issue and dumped all of the thoughts in my brain out, so I thought I’d at least do a check in.
Where have I been?
I had a two week trip to Japan, which inspired me to do a future issue on the Japanese train advertising ecosystem as I noticed they’ve taken it up a notch since the last time I was there. I just need the time to sit down and write it!
Literally immediately after getting home, I caught covid (for the first time, in 2024), and was out for a full seven days. Now I’m back to client work, and seriously over stretched with the most volume of work I’ve had since stepping out on my own in April of 2023.
Before heading to Japan though, I was a guest on two, count em, TWO podcasts.
The LinkedIn Ads Lab with Rob Muldoon:
We talked about ad campaigns on LinkedIn, working with small budgets and low resources, and in general just all things LinkedIn campaigns.
Earning Ears with Adam Spencer
This one’s on Spotify, so you can listen to it on the go. Earning Ears is all about building audiences, but we actually spoke a lot about my LinkedIn experiment (to be honest I’d say the Mehdeeka issue is more in depth on that), actually producing content as a job, and experiments I’ve run around building the audience for Mehdeeka here on Substack, including content distribution channels, and which ones have been good for subscribers vs just views.
What am I working on at the moment?
Mehdeeka issues are usually inspired by whatever I’m working on, so here’s my current to-do list:
Finding a growth channel that works for a particularly tough product. The partner marketing issue was actually inspired by this client!
Turning industry changes and new regulations into marketing opportunities, capitalising on the search traffic that’s looking for an explanation on how these regulations will impact our target market, and then repurposing that content into events, speaking opportunities, webinars, and partner enablement content.
Building up the sales assets for several clients simultaneously, it’s always easier (in both an efficiency and creative way) to do the same type of work for multiple at once, because you can see how different products and industries can use the same or totally opposite tactics to achieve what they’re aiming for.
Product and feature launches, which I’ve written about:
A website rebuild, which ironically enough, I have my YouTube guide for. Of course I’m working on a website project within 3 months of releasing a guide on how to avoid having to re-build a website every 12 months. Of course.
Ok but you always have sneaky side things going on
True! And true in this case.
I guess this is now the official announcement but I wrote a book on product marketing! It’s gone through testing, many rounds of edits, and it’s now getting transformed from Google Doc to book publishing format.
I have to work out shipping? Am I going to store physical books in my apartment and ship them out myself? It’ll definitely be available as an ebook, but I will probably do a small run of really nice physical books because I need to feel it in my hands to prove to myself I did it. If they sell out I’ll reprint, who knows. I have low expectations for this!
If this season break goes on too long, I’ll publish an excerpt to bridge the void of
no new content from me.
Between now and then…
Come join the WhatsApp community. It’s pretty chill, like a group chat where we just post about marketing and chit chat. 1 strike policy, no promotions, don’t be annoying or you’ll be booted out with no warning.
It’ll be blank when you enter, but someone will post something eventually, or you can!
Ok, that is truly everything I have to share.
See you……. soon…..
