It’s almost the end of the week, if you’re mentally done with work and want to look busy for the rest of the day, here’s some links! If you like this new split of additional links at the end of the week, please do let me know by leaving a comment or ‘hearting’ this issue.
Reminder: This is not a regular issue of Mehdeeka, it’s an occasional bonus whenever I have too many links to share in the regular Wednesday issue.
First of all just a little context, this is a Japanese cosmetics ad featuring the current top Jpop group NiziU (pronounced like Need You) hence the very long dance sequence, but at 0:45 there’s an excellent shot of one of the girls taking a face mask off - it is so natural in how it has been presented and makes the idea of face masks being a regular thing post-covid super normal when watching it.
It’s an excellent read on how a story begins, takes form, and the importance of having someone else read your work before publishing.
Cheers to Gina from Goodchat for the heads up on this one. It’s interesting to read how different designers approached the brief of a ‘default’ font and the things they considered like ‘what does this font look like when it’s all caps because it’s an Excel column heading’.
This cafe in Russia has quite the interior, the designers said “The goal was to create an ambience so each guest could dream their own dream in the world of pastry. The pastry is everywhere, it looks and even feels like the cafe is made of dough.”
Another long video ad, this one is not a particularly original or new concept, but the execution is really good. Since we (Perkbox) operate in multiple regions, it has been a reminder that many places in the world are still in pretty serious places when it comes to covid and so these messages and ads do still have a place.
Forgot to read this week’s regular Mehdeeka issue? No worries, it’s right here.
