Welcome back to your weekly dose of anything even tangentially related to B2B, SaaS, or startup marketing!
Appreciate that it’s been a while since I last sent an issue, so I’m counting this as “season 3, episode 0” and a chance to introduce how things are going to change around here. First of all, I’ve actually planned out what the topics are going to be for the whole season.
Secondly, I’m going to introduce a new interview format (in addition to the type that I do regularly, not replacing it) where I ask lots of marketers a single question, and get a variety of answers across industry/target market/product type. I hope that this means you will be able to find even more relevant information to you and your marketing.
Because the topics are planned in advance, it also means I’ll have a submissions form so you can put your answer in for these 1-question interviews! The first one will be on which lead generation channels work best, and you can submit yours here. Keep an eye out for this future issue, coming soon!
The last big change is that I’m going to be limiting my weekly links to a maximum of 5. On occasion, I might have more than 5 links I want to share, and in that case I will make an additional email for that week, dedicated just to sharing inspirational or interesting links.
In fact, that will be happening this week because I accumulated a lot of links during my break! Link-only emails will be sent (if at all) on Fridays so you can look busy at 3pm when you’re truly ready to knock off for the week.
Now that you know what’s coming up, here are my CTAs for the upcoming Mehdeekas:
Submit your answer to “who is your target market and what’s your best performing lead gen channel” here
Nominate a marketer, yourself or other, for future interview topics here (looking for landing pages, SEO, and branding/design right now, please note I’ll only interview one person per topic)
Some personal news
You might have already seen, but I am leaving Perkbox to move on to a new challenge! Fear not, I’m still going to be a B2B SaaS marketer in a startup… and I’ll let you know which one after I have officially started the new role!
This does mean that there’s a marketing role at Perkbox up for grabs. It’s not my exact old role, it’s a Field Marketer role (job description here), but if you’d like to ask me questions about it or get a recommendation please reach out to me via kayla.medica@perkbox.com! note: my last day at Perkbox is this Friday
5 worthy clicks
I’m putting the most time-sensitive links in today’s issue, and you’ll get a bunch of more fun/inspirational/less B2B related links on Friday!
Signal used personalised Facebook ads to point out how targeted you can go
The writing is not particularly exciting on this one, but the ads themselves are interesting. I know everyone has a different take on whether targeted ads are creepy or not. Personally (and my opinion is likely influenced by the fact that I’m in marketing), if I’m going to get served an ad I’d rather it be something I’m potentially interested in.
A round up of some changes on Facebook. For everyone who cares about the number of likes your page has, the good news is they’re changing to follows being the dominant number - which is usually higher.
If you want to send your boss one link to convince them that a long planning period and long execution period is a good thing, this is it. Lil Nas X not only expected the backlash, but had marketing strategies prepared ahead of time to respond to every possible reception he could have gotten.
And customer.io have a great example of well executed docs. For highly technical products, having your customer FAQ and help centre on your main website (as opposed to hidden somewhere that is only for customers to see) can help potential customers understand what your product does and how they can use it.
Stacy goes into rebranding Outwrite, and her experience at Wildcard in this interview. Stacy was actually the first ever interviewee on Mehdeeka, which you can read here!
