Mehdeeka is for solo marketers or small teams working in the B2B, SaaS, startup, and tech spaces. Check out the previous issue on sales and marketing alignment. Help me grow Mehdeeka by sharing it with a friend or colleague!
A quick game’s a good game, and we’ve all got better things to be doing than learning about marketing this close to the end of the year. Here’s a wrap up of some of my favourite Mehdeekas from the archive

When I’d then ask a founder how they thought they could differentiate themselves from that other startup or, if the other startup had shut down, how they would avoid the same fate, most were adamant that, actually, they were extremely different and not really competitors at all - even though the products or services they offered were almost identical (like, do you know how many ‘order food from home cooks’ and ‘park your car in someone else’s driveway’ marketplaces I saw in my time?!).
Lessons from Disney
If you’re wondering what Bob’s priorities ended up being (and what has driven the strategy of Disney for 15 years), they were 1) high quality, branded content 2) embracing technology to enable higher quality content and reaching wider audiences and 3) becoming a truly global company.

For an effective strategy you need to have a full grasp of who your audience is, what stage of the purchasing journey they're in and what they want, and need, from your communication at every stage.
Why recycling leads is so important
Think of it this way, if you’re paying $50/lead and $100/closed won account, it means you’re closing 1 in every 2 leads (a fantasy, but let’s keep it simple).
If you recycle the 50% of leads you don’t sell to, you’re putting them in a new funnel where you’re paying $0 per lead. If you close 1 in 10 of these recycle leads, then your cost per closed won goes from $100 to $90.
An interview with Stacy Goh
There are many reasons why a company may need to rebrand: to expand into new markets; refresh an outdated look; fix a damaged reputation; or merge with another company… But just because you can rebrand, doesn't mean you should. Plenty of companies have been punished for changing a brand that their customers already loved. In 2010, GAP reportedly spent $100 million on a new logo, only to revert to the original a week later due to immense backlash. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

The A to Z of Instagram in Australia (their 2020 report), I really liked the way this was presented.
An interview from It’s Nice That with Fredrik Andersson (NSFW warning!), a little visual inspiration for you.
An example of really great piece of product marketing, explaining how a very complex product works in easy language that still highlights the value to the user!
And that’s it for 2020! I’ll be back in 2021, some time around mid-late Jan. Enjoy your break!
