Hello everyone! I am popping in for a quick hits update for you, as after the Startup Daily webinar, quite a few new people have subscribed and it feels wrong to just let everyone not get any emails right after they sign up.
Regular readers, skip to the links for some fun! New subscribers, hello! Mehdeeka is published in “seasons” and we’re currently between Season 5 and Season 6, and this break is also timed with an upcoming overseas trip so you won’t receive a “proper” Mehdeeka until some time in mid-August when I’m back from that trip. You might receive an ad-hoc intermission if I’ve got something to say or share before then, though.
I highly encourage checking out my resources spreadsheet in the meantime too:
Fun things from around the internet
Obviously we have to start with the webinar! If you haven’t watched it, check it out here.
Two links that are linked to each other, the first is this old episode of the Ezra Klein Show, titled Our Workplaces Think We’re Computers. We’re Not. and this Vanity Fair article titled Hot Streaks in Your Career Don’t Happen by Accident (might be paywalled, sorry), which both explore concepts around cycles in work. One cycle could be highly social (talking to lots of colleagues, collaborative work, and so on) followed by a cycle of individual deep work where you really get stuck into it on your own. I found both fascinating, and it made me see my work differently - instead of thinking I’d swung too far to one side and then overcompensated too far to the other side, I was able to start recognising these cycles as beneficial and necessary to work.
Stephen Grace released a motion graphics course for brand designers/marketers. He just announced he’s leaving Christopher Doyle & Co (they do the Australian Spotify Wrapped campaign every year, and have a bunch of other great work.)
I came across this design on Twitter that made me laugh - and you can pre-order it as a t-shirt from the artist!
A July update for the LinkedIn algorithm has already resulted in people seeing lower post reach and engagement on the platform. Rosie Chong has a great round up of the major changes.
And finally, the Barbie movie marketing is insane. Enjoy this Twitter thread rounding it up.
That’s all for today, I’ll catch you sooner or later!
